Introduction to “Legend of the Sword and Bravery: YAIBA”

This sword-fighting action series follows Tetsuya, a wild child who trained in the jungle with his father, Kenjuro, as he arrives in Japan, stays with the Mine family, and battles his destined enemy, Onimaru.
Armed with the demon sword “Raijin-ken,” Yaiba engages in battles against Onimaru’s assassins and embarks on adventures with his companions in search of the legendary jewel.

Minami Takayama, who voices Yaiba, was also announced to reprise her role as Yaiba in the new anime series “Shin Samurai Den YAIBA,” which began airing in April 2025, will reprise her role as Yaiba, just as she did in the 1993 version.
Why not take this opportunity to compare the original story—featuring Yaiba voiced by the same actress—with the new series, even if you’re a fan who discovered the franchise through the new adaptation?
