Introduction
The story is set in the “Roman Empire” in the year 606 of the Divine Calendar. As citizens suffer under the oppressive rule of Emperor Phocas and a series of wars with neighboring nations, a new story begins when Aspar, a young slave living in the imperial city of Neapolis, meets Zoe, a mysterious woman who survives with only her head.
